Voucher readiness checklist
Before you order:
- Voucher is added to your Uber Wallet.
- You are using the correct Uber account.
- You’re ordering within the program’s time window.
- Your address and restaurant are inside the allowed area.
- You have a backup payment method on file.
If all of these are true, the voucher should appear and apply.
Voucher troubleshooting
Logging into the correct Uber account and handling account suspensions
Helping students navigate account suspensions and EDU logins can be tricky, especially since many students juggle multiple email addresses. Here is a guide to resolving these issues and ensuring they are using the correct credentials.
1. Ensuring the Correct .edu Login
The most common reason vouchers “disappear” is that the student is logged into a personal Gmail or iCloud account instead of the official university-linked account.
- Check the Invite Email: Have the student search their inbox for the subject line: “You’re invited to join [University Name] on Uber for Business” or “Your voucher from [University Name] is here.”
- The “Switch Account” Rule: Uber allows users to link multiple emails, but vouchers are often hard-coded to the exact email address used by the university.
- Verify the Profile:
- Open the Uber Eats app and tap Account.
- Check the email address listed at the top.
- If it’s a personal email, they must Sign Out and Sign In using the official .edu credentials, or add the .edu email as a secondary address in Settings (if the voucher allows for account linking).
2. Handling Account Suspensions
If a student sees a “Your account is suspended” or “Unable to place order” message, it is usually triggered by security flags.
Common Causes for Student Suspensions:
- Multiple Accounts: Creating several accounts to “stack” promo codes is the #1 cause of suspensions. Uber’s system flags devices shared by multiple users or multiple accounts using the same phone number.
- Payment Mismatch: If the voucher only covers $20 and the student adds a credit card with a different billing name or address than the account holder, it may trigger a fraud alert.
- Verification Failure: For 2026, many student discounts require SheerID or ID.me verification. If the student fails to upload a valid transcript or ID when prompted, the account may be temporarily locked.
How to Resolve:
- The “Contact Support” Form: In the app, go to Help > Account and Payment Options > Can’t sign in.
- Appeal the Suspension: student can visit Uber Help: My account is disabled page. They will need to provide a photo of their university ID to prove they are the legitimate owner of the .edu account.
- Clear App Cache: Sometimes a “suspended” message is a technical glitch. Have the student delete the app, restart their phone, and reinstall.
“My voucher isn’t showing at checkout”
- Check:
- Is the voucher added to your Wallet?
- Is the voucher still valid (not expired)?
- Are you ordering:
- In the correct country/city?
- Within allowed dates/times?
- From eligible restaurants (no excluded categories)?
- Are you using the correct account/profile (personal vs business)?
If still not visible, try:
- Closing and reopening the app.
- Logging out and back in.
“The voucher didn’t cover my whole order”
- That’s expected if:
- Your order total exceeded the voucher amount.
- Alcohol is not covered by this voucher.
The voucher will apply up to its limit; your personal payment method covers the rest.
“I was charged the full amount”
- Possible reasons:
- Order didn’t meet the voucher rules (time, place, restaurant type).
- Voucher was expired at the time of order.
- Voucher wasn’t selected at checkout.
What to do:
- Check the receipt in the app:
- Open Uber Eats → Orders → select your order.
- If you believe the voucher should have applied:
- Use Help on that order in the app and follow the prompts, or
- Contact the student.resources@yale.edu for support.
