Old Campus Fellows Program

Old Campus Fellows (OCFs) are selected by the Yale College Dean’s Office and work in collaboration with the Associate Dean of Residential College Life, heads of college, deans, and first-year counselors of the residential colleges with which they are affiliated to provide residential supervision and support for students living on the Old Campus, the primary residential area for Yale’s first-year students.

The main role of Old Campus Fellows (OCFs) is to promote the safety and welfare of the residents on Old Campus. They help to enforce the Undergraduate Regulations and are available to respond in case of emergency. OCFs also work with the Office of First-Year Affairs and the Yale College Dean’s Office to introduce first years to various resources and services on campus that are particularly relevant to first-years. Old Campus fellows reside on the Old Campus, and each is affiliated with three to four residential colleges. Like fellows in the residential colleges, Old Campus fellows have full-time appointments throughout the university.

Appointment

OCFs are selected for an academic year, with duties from mid-August through approximately June 1st. Fellows may be reappointed for another academic year, contingent on approval of the Dean of Students and the continuation of the OCF program.  Apartments are usually available for new fellows from July 1 – June 1. Returning OCFs can usually continue in the same apartment without interruption. (Note that ongoing renovations on Old Campus can affect this policy, and OCFs may be asked to relocate for the summer for renovations to proceed; for continuing OCFs required to move off-campus, financial support will be available for alternate housing during the renovation period.)   Staff members in the offices of Student Affairs or Student Engagement are not eligible to serve as OCFs. OCFs must inform the YCDO immediately of any change in Yale employment status. Fellows must relinquish their apartments immediately upon the termination or lapse of Yale employment.
