The Opening Days of Yale College

The Opening Days offers first-year students an opportunity to form connections and community through participation in one of ten specially-designed Yale College orientation programs.

Opening Days, required of all new first-year students, begins in late August.

2026 events for families are planned for August 26 and 30 and culminate in a lunch in the residential colleges. More details will be forthcoming.

Move-in times are by reservation; you will receive instructions later this summer for making yours, so please wait until you receive those instructions before you book travel arrangements so that you can give yourself enough time to arrive in time for your reservation.

You will also receive instructions for indicating your preference for one of 10 special Camp Yale Programs that are part of orientation: BUILD, Camp Yale Arts, Cultural Connections (CC), FOCUS, First-Year Outdoor Orientation Trips (FOOT), Harvest, LAUNCH, Orientation for International Students (OIS), Yale Campus Recreation (YCR), and Yale Reserved.

Public Safety Information
